From 11 to 22 May 2021 the Graduate School of Management of St. Petersburg University (GSOM SPbU) and the St. Petersburg Research Institute of Ambulance named after I.I. Janelidze,the Nikiforov’s All-Russian Center for Emergency and Radiation Medicine, the EMERCOM of Russia and the Scandinavia clinic are jointly implementing a professional development program Using the value chain in the strategic planning of the clinic's activities.
The program is aimed at chief physicians and heads of departments of inpatient medical organizations. As part of the round table "Management of a medical organization in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic: a preliminary analysis", which was held at GSOM SPbU, the head of the Management in Healthcare program, Associate Professor of the Department of State and Municipal Administration Andrew Ivanov presented the methodological foundations of the new course — value chain models Michael Porter (the original model used in the management of organizations of any industry , and the model of the value chain in the provision of health care).
The competencies acquired in the learning process will allow the students of the program:
- To develop value chains in the provision of medical care in the case of various pathologies;
- To manage the contribution of activities implemented within the various elements of the value chain to the components of the value of the medical service for the patient;
- To apply the obtained models to improve the quality and safety of medical care and reduce the costs of its provision;
- To organize the process of strategic planning of the clinic (its department) based on value chains.
The lectures will take place in a blended format that will include face-to-face meetings and online courses. The first week of the program involves online training and the formation of 6-7 project teams to develop value chains in the provision of medical care for various nosology, or classifications of disease. For the second week (May 17-22), face-to-face classes are planned, which will be held both within the walls of the GSOM SPbU and at partnering medical organizations.

The round table "Management of a medical organization in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic: a preliminary analysis" was held as part of the discipline "Topical issues of reforming the healthcare system in the Russian Federation" of the professional retraining program Management in Healthcare. This discussion brought together heads of medical organizations from eight regions of Russia on the GSOM SPbU Mikhailovskaya Dacha Campus .
