The Executive Director of the Charitable Foundation for the Graduate School of Management of St. Petersburg University (GSOM SPbU) Development Ekaterina Voronina held an online meeting of the “historical club” for student curators to tell their first-year students about the rich past of Mikhailovskaya Dacha.
The history of the Mikhailovskaya Dacha campus goes back over 300 years. These lands were owned by the personal doctors of Peter I: Robert Areskin, head of the Aptekarsky order and head of the cabinet of curiosities, and then Lavrenty Blumentrost, the first president of the Academy of Sciences. In the same places there were the dachas of the court cook of Peter I, Johann Felten, and the leading specialist in domestic shipbuilding of that time, Tikhon Lukin.
In 1834, the land where Mikhailovka is now located was bought to build a dacha for the youngest son of Emperor Nicholas I, Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolaevich Romanov, who at that time was only two years old. This was followed by long work on the construction of the palace and other buildings of the complex, the transfer of the old village from this place, the arrangement of the park, the organization of the coastal Sea Road. Swamps were drained, bridges were built, hundreds of trees were planted including lindens. Nowadays, the Charitable Foundation for the Graduate School of Management of St. Petersburg University Development is engaged in the restoration of the historical appearance of Mikhailovskaya Dacha.
GSOM SPbU has an institution of curatorship. Curators help freshmen to adapt, understand the grading system and the structure of the Business School, talk about opportunities for creative and educational development and make the life of freshmen richer. All of them are pre-trained. Any open, caring and motivated student can become one of the curators, regardless of the course and study program. To become a curator you need to apply for training and go through three stages of selection. After graduating from the School of Curator you need to pass the exam and get a diploma.
